ABOUT THE EVENT
This week we will explore the concept of SANTOSHA, often translated as meaning "contentment." Santosha is a concept in yoga philosophy that invites us to accept things just as they are in the present moment and find the glimmers in life amidst the challenges.
In mindfulness practices we learn how to choose where to put our attention. We can choose to focus on the breath, sensations in the body, conscious thoughts like an affirmation or mantra that we repeat in our mind, or simply choosing a point of focus for our eyes to hold a steady gaze.
Practicing santosha can be as simple as appreciating a quiet moment in the sunshine or a playful loving moment with a pet. And santosha can be more challenging when we are in the midst of personal struggle or hardship, or feeling weighed down by the troubles of the world.
It can be hard to allow ourselves moments of contentment when all is not right in our world. Choosing how to shift our focus to the glimmers rather than the triggers is not just a mental exercise but an actual neural exercise for our brain. It gets easier over time but it takes training and practice. And it can be so helpful and enriching to practice together!

These classes are a blend of education and practice to learn how your nervous system functions, especially in response to stress and trauma. We explore simple concepts of neuroscience and physiology integrated with somatic movement and breath practices to support healing and integration of the mind, body and spirit.
These classes are especially helpful if you struggle with anxiety, depression, chronic pain and other states of chronic dysregulation. Connect in a community of like minds on a healing path and learn practices to integrate into your daily life. Options are always offered to provide choice in honoring your needs for more rest or more intensity.
The gifts of regular practice are many! We get better at listening to our body and responding to our own needs, develop self-trust & compassion, find the courage to try new things, feel empowered to make hard choices, understand and heal from cultural and family conditioning... these are just a few. With repetition and support we can retune the nervous system to become more resilient and capable of dealing with the challenges of life. Trauma informed, suitable for all levels.
